Eco~Stewardship of the Online World...

Twitter is over capacity.
Too many tweets! Please wait a moment and try again.

Twitter Whale

It's become an all too familiar bane of popular sites like Twitter.  Messages about the sites being overwhelmed by too many hits from their users which are causing them to malfunction.  Active Rain also struggled recently to resolve technical issues which made the site load with frustrating slowness or...not at all.

Will there come a time where WHAT we post will be restricted?  Is the Internet an unlimited portal or will we discover that there ARE limitations...and that we all have to exercise responsible restraint in our usage?  If that happens...WHO will create the rules?  Will avoidance result in being buried under a putrid mess of virtual waste?  Just a thought...

Lola - I hate the little meltdown moments we experience on AR sometimes.  There are so many posts coming in so fast - I am wondering, too, if they will start limiting numbers.

An interesting though, Lola.  It the internet universe finite?  For now, I will keep my Twitterphobia alive and well and look at it as a favor to all the Tweets out there.

I got that message!

Yup...I do believe there should be some restrictions....otherwise this site will go bonkers continuously.

Hi Virginia,  It's happening more frequently at many popular online destinations.  It will be interesting to see how the process is resolved...if it is.

Sally...growing pains for these great sites has not been easy.  You wonder how many potential users are turned off or stop using them due to the 'meltdowns'

Twitter. I just joined this site like this month or so. Dont ask me if I am using it. I need a crash course on Twitter. Too many things today on the Internet to keep up with. It is a job alone keeping up here on Active Rain. Great post Lola.

Lanre, Believe me...I understand.  The Internet can be overwhelming.  I've discovered that the best route for me is to take on things when I can...if I'm overwhelmed, it's simply not time yet.  You're doing a great job on Active Rain.  Keep up the good work.

Lola- Interesting concept.....when something is new the goal is to get people.....after that content and growth, then maintenance....and now???????  I am watching, and being careful that I don't end up with scrambled eggs LOL :)

I often wonder what will happen if we can not access our email for a day or more. Good thought provoking post.
