So, How do the Messies Manifest & Morph About Around Your Home? (Part 4)*

"all tied up in knots"The fact is that almost all of us are messy in some area of our lives.  For some, it's an extreme problem.  But for the vast majority of us, our version of messiness carries a unique message if we care to listen and observe.

Messiness may be about an area over which you feel you have no control and therefore fail to organize.  Or it may be a means of exerting control.  I have come to the conclusion that some teenagers bedrooms manifest this kind of chaos to protest against the freaky neatness of their parents!

How we choose to reveal our messiness also says something.  A desire to maintain a certain appearance can be about neatness and cleanliness, but it can also be about controlling a perception and image.  Neither of these is necessarily bad, it just helpful to understand the nature of our intentions.

The nature of our messiness may change over time.  Sometimes elderly people who have been neat all their lives become increasingly messy as dementia or Alzheimer's take their toll.  It is important to be aware of changes in lifestyle patterns, such as house keeping habits, as these may be first indicators of changes that are taking place deep below the surface.  This type of progressive decline can sometimes be observed when individuals are feeling overwhelmed or dealing with depression.

Cleaning up a mess can serve many functions.  Clearing excess clutter out of one's life leaves space for new things to enter New ideas, new people, new opportunities, new situations.  Sometimes the most toxic type of clutter has no physical manifestation.  It is the clutter of old worn out ideologies, prejudices, fear and traumas.  This type of clutter can be far more crippling that anything that stuffs up a home.  Emotional baggage can be carried around for decades, creating a dead weight of junk in the home that we all share in common...the human body

Emotional clutter needs to be regularly cleared for our human bodies to remain clean and healthy.  Developing a practise of meditation that includes releasing emotional clutter on a daily basis can serve as a vital link to maintaining good health.  Many forward thinking health practitioners are indicating that psychosomatic illness, which results from unfinished emotional issues, is one of the primary underlying reasons for serious disease in our country.

Examining the nature of our clutter and dealing with the underlying issues is an important step in moving forward.  When excess clutter leaves your life, in whatever form it manifests, it's like a weight has been lifted off.  It's like the exhilaration of breathing fresh air with clear lungs.  Excess clutter has many important ramifications in our lives.  The benefits of examining it and dealing with getting rid of it when appropriate are huge! This is critical not just for selling a home, but in moving forward to create a productive life.

My husbands motto is " just in case ". I would throw everything away. I hate clutter, I keep telling him you may as well throw it away because if and when we sell it is going in the garbage.

I do not have the organizational gene but I forced myself over the last few months, Lola, to be more organized. It's much less painful than having to look for things forever! :-)

One man's clutter is another man's treasure, so self evaluation is essential.

Hi Missy.  I have members in my family who have the same motto as your husband!  When the come back to a house that I've cleaned, they take one look around and head for the trash can! :)

Carole...Those who are messy would argue they simply define "organization" in a different way. I remember standing by my son's locker as things came tumbling out while he was looking for a paper.  To my amazement, he found it almost immediately.  For me, the stress of opening up a locker that looked like that would wipe the fun out of my day...and I would spend a lot of time trying to locate stuff.  Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I also like to call it "pre-packing"  the client gets it when I use those terms...

I love how you said at the end of your post, "You can contact us to talk about decluttering your home for a Faster Sale!" That was a great way to end this post. Emotional baggage is huge. If you clean out your physical clutter it helps to clear your mind. It is a very good releasing technique. For those that suffer from more emotional issues in regards to clutter can use EFT, extremely effective releasing technique, so is clearings with Kinesiology. I meditate every single day. It really helps get the stuff to the surface. Katerina

Lola, your posts are so well written and thought provoking that I see to be emailing all of them to my agents, maybe your writing will replace my sales meeting next week!

I am a clutter keeper - in fact I have 3 desk at home - so none of them look too bad - ouch, time to pare down.  I need a clutter buster buddy for support, lol.

Katerina, Thanks for stopping by for a visit.  I've done a little bit of reading on kinesiology & EFT, both of which are very powerful methods of using the flow of life within the body to release a number of issues.  I heard about EFT from a lady who used it to help her deal with a crippling fear of public speaking.  It is important to understand that there are many forms of clutter which are far more toxic than anything that we can taste, sense or feel with our physical senses.  Thanks for sharing your insights through your comment.

Lola -- I read once about a Native American tribe that burns all earthy possessions every seven years as  an act of cleansing -- Might be a little extreme in today's terms, but I love the idea of starting again with a clean slate. Stuff can be constricting and limiting, I need to cleanse myself of it ever so often.

Doing a clean sweep may also allow us to reinvent ourselves. I've heard people use that when they're moving, either for their children or for themselves - start all over.
