We picked up two loaves of bread the other day from one of our favorite local bakeries, Great Harvest Bread Company. Let me tell you, there are few things more singularly delicious than sinking one's teeth into a soft, freshly baked piece of bread. And when it's challah or cinnamon bread, two of my favorites...well, it's like a little slice of heaven here on earth. :)
As we enjoyed a little break, my husband made a passing remark which went something like this...'just six things'. Now if you knew my hubby, you would appreciate that he is a man of relatively few words, so one learns to pay attention when he dispenses them. So, I inquired about what he was referring to.
Well, he was looking at the label on the bread loaf and noted how simple the ingredient list was. Remember the days when bread contained ingredients that you didn't need a science degree to understand? I picked up the loaf to see for myself. The list...white flour, honey, eggs, water, yeast and salt. That was it! All that taste and flavor from just a few simple ingredients.
Made me think about our jobs as real estate professionals. At a time when there's so much hype about this and that...social media, online advertising, online networking, personal promotion etc, etc...doesn't it still boil down to just a few simple things?
My dad used to say, 'it's not about what you know, it's about who you know'. I learned that you Treat people the way you want to be treated...don't manipulate, don't deceive...what goes around comes around. Then there was this...'whatever your hands find to do...do it with ALL your might.' And...always keep an open, clean heart...clear those accounts every single night. And then one of my favorites...a simple African proverb; 'No condition is permanent in this world.' Just a few simple things, but I've found them to be vital in creating an enriching life.

Lola, OK that is not fair, not fair at all. Showing us that and not being able to share it with us. This is just cruel ........ LOL
'it's not about what you know, it's about who you know'. Your dad
"Don't forget to ask for the sale." my dad
African proverb : 'No condition is permanent in this world.'
Jimmy Buffet about tattoos : "A permanent reminder of a temperary feeling"
I think we have a lot to learn if we just shut up and listen. "Now if you knew my hubby, you would appreciate that he is a man of relatively few words, so one learns to pay attention when he dispenses them."
All wise words in my opinion.
Lola, you are making me hungry for food I am trying to avoid! The hunger was worst when I thought you had made them yourself. But how lovely to do such a nice job of promoting your local bakery. I do agree they do a good job. In another place and time, I indulged heartily. I see George has a a weakness for them too.
Lola - I am a hige bread lover myself, and being hungry at the omoent made this an even more delicious read. And what a nice thought. THings really aren't all that complicated, we just tend to make them so. Something to keep in mind.
Jeff
We have a Great Harvest out here also, and their cinnamon chip and challah breads are yummy...My daughter ate their flax seed bread the other day.
Simple things always seem to be better than trying to make it complex.
Mmmmm...that bread makes me hungry!
Great post and great quotes. My dad always told us, "Keep smiling, because tomorrow is another day..."
Great post Lola! Great Advice too! Read Teri Eckholm's blog (same group) Successful Open House - My Clients said Hang the Sold Sign....she follows your wisdom.

PS - the bread looks yummy, we agree with George Souto above, just cruel, can we at least have a Cyber-piece?
Sounds like that bread would be wonderful with a simple cup of coffee. Isn't it odd how we tend to complicate our own lives? And we do it without considering what hurdles we are putting in our own way.
Thanks for sharing your husband's observation. Now it has my brain mulling over many things.
I do like simple and straight forward . Am I mistaken or is cinnamon also an ingredient.
Lola, I am ready for breakfast. The picture made me hungry . Nice post.
just six things...I would like it if the word ORGANIC were included...but am smiling nonetheless =)
Lola - Thanks for the wise words. I like the way you found a way to simplify life to a few meaningful sentences. Thanks for sharing.
Lola Fresh bread is a given in our home - my husband's hobby is baking bread - your business "ingredients" are very true, Karen
Oh Karen...you are one very, very lucky lady!
Lynn, appreciate your comment. Thanks.
janeAnne...Sounds like you & I would enjoy grocery shopping together. :)
Gita, This bread doesn't stay around long in our house. :)
Terry, the picture is of the cinnamon bread...the ingredient list is the challah. We've purchased both & the list for the cinnamon bread is a tad longer...but not much. :)
Carol...If you ever come to GR...this should be on the 'to do list' :)
George, I'm so sorry. :) I hope you weren't hungry when you stopped by LOL
Hey thanks Dena! Loved your comment. :)
Eloise, I am a baker and love to do it when I have the time; so I'm particularly picky about baked foods. My family jokes that I am a 'bakery connosieur' This bakery makes excellent bread!
Jeff...you & George must have sensed the whiff of fresh bread on virtual space. :)
Melina...what did you think of the flax seed bread? Did you like it...
Peggy..there's a lot of wisdom in those simple sayings.
Al & Peggy...LOL; please be my guests and join in this virtual bread fest.
Wow - great, delicious food staring at me when I'm hungry. I at least can run out and buy a loaf, even though I have to wait until Friday.
What a lovely post, it fed both my stomach and my soul. Thank you! Now I'm off to Great Harvest!
