Inspired Real Estate For Today

Am I Hawt...or Not!

Yes, the typo is intended.  Intended to underscore a point about online branding and personification.  I just finished reading an intriguing thread online.  Seth Godin started the discussion on his blog by asking a question about...Who's Telling You the Truth About Your Online Personal Marketing.

According to Seth, the fact is that you are judged by how you appear, how you spell, the style of your blog's typeface and even by the typos on your instant messaging...think of all the interesting concoctions of the English language you see on Twitter.

So, I clicked on the good feedback link to see where it might lead.  And following the bunny trail landed on this German site where you can benefit from the wisdom of impartial strangers reviewing a number of different profile pictures and giving you their unvarnished opinion of if you look good or dorky...smart or stupid...hawt or not!

Your response to this will be determined by whether you believe people make decisions based on WHAT they see online.  Can a poorly imaged photograph cost you business?  Is the online world even more fickle than the real world, where beauty isn't even skin deep...it's paper thin. Hmmm....

Me?Me?Me?

This got me wondering about WHY we choose the pictures we do for our online representation.  Does what we choose to display say something about where we are at the moment?  If it's an unflattering image, does it mean that we're confident enough to not care...or what?

So, would you let total strangers tell you how they judge your appearance online.  But then again...aren't we all veiled behind an annonymous screen? :)

Roses...A Perennial East Grand Rapids Dining Favorite!

Reeds Lake...A view from Roses Restaurant DeckThere's just something irresistible about Roses, the beloved East Grand Rapids, Michigan restaurant on the banks of Reeds Lake.  The charm and colorful history of this unique historic restaurant date back to the turn of the century.

The serenity of the scenery provides little evidence of the main attractions which drew crowds to this portion of the West Michigan lake shore from Chicago and neighboring communities in the early 1900's.  But, believe it or not...the banks along Reeds Lake were once gathering spots for up to 9 houses of 'ill repute' and several gambling casinos.

Today, a more subdued and sedate lifestyle defines most of the living along the lake, but Roses Restaurant continues to hold a special place in the hearts of area residents.

Today, the restaurant is owned by the Gilmore Collection, a consortium which owns and operates several great restaurants in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area.  But as the story is told, the original Mr Rose, James Rose...a German immigrant started the business as a bath house to teach folks how to swim.  He even invented a special method which involved tying students to a fishing pole and walking back and forth. You can visit this site to see pictures of the tourist who took swimming lessons.

Roses Restaurant, East Grand Rapids, MichiganMy favorite time to dine at Roses is during their Sunday brunch.  Roses offers an extensive array of offerings which range from American cuisine to Mediterranean.  Their wood fried pizzas are also a popular favorite.

But, it's the unique French Toast recipe that keeps me coming back for seconds.  Roses French Toast is baked, not fried, in a wood fired oven.  The serving is a pie shaped wedge which resembles a luscious piece of cake.  Although unusual, it remains one of the best French Toast recipes that I've ever tried.

Collins Park in East Grand Rapids, MichiganLast year, the restaurant underwent extensive exterior rennovations.  This created additional outdoor dining with a covered patio and lakeside deck seating.  On any given day, diners can watch sail boats drifting along the lake or fishermen casting rods along the banks.

Roses has been cited in many local publications for their excellent food and service.  In 2001 and 2003, the restaurant won the prestigious Restaurant of the Year Award.

Collins Park, a local gathering spot runs adjacent to Roses.  It is one of the nicest community parks in the area and includes nicely sculpted walking trails, park benches and a beautiful view of Reeds Lake.

In addition to the restuarant and Park, the city of East Grand Rapids has also provided a beautiful new community center which also houses the library and City Hall.  These ammenities and attractions have created a unique lifestyle which many East Grand Rapids natives embrace enthusiastically.
